Add a Testimonial Widget to Squarespace

A Code Block and one snippet. Two Squarespace behaviours make this look broken when it is not, and both are worth knowing before you start.

One flat price. Unlimited views. Your widget never switches off.

Three steps in Squarespace

  1. 01

    Edit the page

Open the page and hover over the section where the testimonials should go.

  2. 02

    Add a Code block

Click Add block, or the +, to open the block menu, then choose Code. Click the pencil icon on the block to open its editor.

  3. 03

    Paste the snippet and save

Paste both lines into the code field and save the page.

What you paste into Squarespace
<div data-praisesnap-widget="YOUR_KEY"
     data-praisesnap-type="wall"
     data-praisesnap-height="320"
     style="min-height:320px"></div>
<script async src="https://praisesnap.com/embed/v1.js"></script>

The key is generated when you build the widget. Change data-praisesnap-type to carousel or badge for the other two widgets — everything else is identical.

Two things that look like failure and are not

First, JavaScript inside a Code Block needs the right plan. Squarespace allows plain HTML and CSS in code blocks on every plan, but JavaScript and iframes only on Core, Plus, Advanced, Business, Commerce Basic and Commerce Advanced — on a plan below those the widget will not run however correctly you paste it. Second, and more confusing: Squarespace says your code sometimes will not appear while you are logged in, as a security measure, even though visitors can see it perfectly. Open the page in a private window, or use Preview in Safe Mode, before concluding anything is wrong. One more thing worth knowing: checkout pages do not support code at all.

What lands on the page

The real widget, running here, exactly as it would run on your site.

A live widget, rendered by the same code that runs on your site. The quotes are examples.

Questions people ask

Which Squarespace plan do I need?

JavaScript in a Code Block requires Core, Plus, Advanced, Business, Commerce Basic or Commerce Advanced. Plain HTML and CSS work on any plan, but the widget needs JavaScript, so a lower plan will not run it.

I pasted the code and nothing appears. Is it broken?

Probably not. Squarespace sometimes hides code from you while you are signed in, as a security measure, even when visitors can see it. Check the page in a private browsing window or use Preview in Safe Mode before changing anything.

Should I use a Code Block or Code Injection?

A Code Block, because it puts the widget in a specific place on a specific page. Code Injection adds code to every page site-wide, which is right for something like an analytics tag and wrong for a testimonial wall.

Can I put it on a checkout page?

No. Squarespace does not support code on checkout pages. Put the rating badge on the product page instead, which is where it does more good anyway.

Embeds do not run on the Webflow canvas

If your code disappears when you save, it is your user role

It stays blank until you publish, and that is normal

Wix embeds are iframes, so they do not reflow

The builder needs no sign-up. Choose a widget, style it, copy the snippet, and paste it into your page to see how it sits before you decide anything.
